AROUND SANDY BAY

- Sandy Bay sits below the cliffs east of Exmouth, next to Devon Cliffs Holiday Park, and joins Exmouth beach at low tide.
- The Geoneedle at Orcombe Point, between Sandy Bay and Exmouth, marks the start of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site; Orcombe Rocks are known for fossil hunting.
- Cycle or walk: the Exe Estuary Trail runs 26 miles from Exmouth through Topsham and Exeter to Dawlish Warren.
- A la Ronde, the National Trust's 16-sided house, is just outside Exmouth; a ferry crosses the Exe from Exmouth to Starcross for Powderham Castle.
- Train: Exmouth station is the end of the branch line from Exeter; buses run from Exeter to Sandy Bay.
- Eat: café and restaurant at Sandy Bay, and waterside cafés at Exmouth Marina.
Dogs on the beach, 2026 season: Sandy Bay is reached through Devon Cliffs Holiday Park and Visit South Devon lists dogs as banned there from 1 April to 31 October, so check locally. On Exmouth beach, East Devon's order bans dogs from 1 May to 30 September, 10am to 6pm, from the Octagon Café to the second groyne before Orcombe Point. All East Devon beaches are open to dogs from 1 October to 30 April.
