DOGS ON THE BEACH: 2026 SEASON
North Yorkshire Council's 2024 order bans dogs from 1 May to 30 September inclusive on South Bay (from the West Pier to the steps by the roundabout next to the underground car park) and on the central stretch of North Bay (from the northern slipway at The Sands to the slipway at the end of the chalets). From 1 October to 30 April these beaches are open to dogs. Dogs must be on a lead on the North Bay and South Bay promenades all year. Beach outside the marked zones is not covered by the summer ban. Rules can change each year, so check the signs.

- Walk or cycle: the Cinder Track follows the old railway 21 miles from Scarborough to Whitby.
- Scarborough Castle (English Heritage) sits on the headland between North Bay and South Bay.
- North Bay: Peasholm Park (dragon boats and the summer naval warfare show), the North Bay Railway, Sea Life Centre and North Bay mini golf.
- South Bay has the harbour, amusement arcades and the traditional seafront along Foreshore Road.
- Train: Scarborough station has direct trains to York.
- Eat: fish and chips along the South Bay seafront, or the café in Peasholm Park with music from the bandstand.
